I love u koala

Today's card uses my favorite Create a Critter cart - the koala which was cut with my Cricut Expression at 3.5 in grey and black. The outfit and dp is Sending Love Specialty from SU. A simple card but I think very cute. This year I plan on surprising my friends and sending out Valentine's cards. It's one of my resolutions, which is to send more cards out. Instead of making them and doing nothing with them.

Have a fabulous day!

Happy Bird Day

Happy happy Thursday everyone! Today I am sharing a card for the My Pink Stamper challenge. It's Robyn's birthday and she's celebrating. The challenge was to make a birthday card. This card was made using my Cricut Expression and the 3 Birds cartridge. The first time I've used it. The paper is retired DP, I believe that it was a hostess bundle. The ribbon is pink pirouette and the cardstock is baja breeze and the new pear color. The stamp is from Robyn's stamps.

Don't forget blog candy here.

As far as my freezer meals are going, I have been cooking a lot and putting a few meals in the freezer. I started with lentil soup. Now I don't like lentil soup but my husband does. I use Ina Garten's recipe which can be found here.

Now, I made a few modifications, first I only use 1 medium onion, the amount of onions the recipe calls for is way too much. I also use about half the lentils. This soup makes an absolute ton still. I fed 5 people and there was enough for lunch for two people and I froze a healthy amount for when my husband wants it again. I pulled out what I wanted to freeze about halfway through the cooking. When I defrost, I will heat and simmer for 30 minutes and then add the polska kielbasa and 2 Tb of red wine vinegar.

I do have a fabulous recipe for you if you are in the mood for homemade beans, super cheap and easy. I call these "Dad's beans" as this is my dad's recipe. He wanted beans that he could control the salt, due to his pace maker and without lard or too much fat.

Recipe for Dad's beans:
1 lb of dried pinto beans (cleaned and picked over for rocks)
1 onion, roughly chopped
1 large garlic roughly chopped
jalapeno (as much as you want, I only use about a quarter of it cuz of my wee ones)
1/4 cup or so olive oil (I used grapeseed cuz that's what I had)
Salt and pepper - I don't have a heart condition so I put a healthy amount of salt which really helps the flavor)
Water - Should be 1-2 inches above the bean mixture

Dump it all in a crock pot and cook on high for about 4 hours or low for 8 hours - if beans become dry add more water. When beans can be smushed easily you can serve them whole or do what I do which is take my potato masher and smash, smash smash the beans until they become creamy and delicious. They are wonderful just like this or you can fry them in a dry pan to get that refried bean consistency but I love them creamy.

Happy Mail

Today's post is a shout out to my friend Melissa. I mentioned that I loved the cuttlebug folder with the little hearts and guess what? She sent it to me! Yay!!! She also sent this super cute card too. I haven't had a chance to open it - I've been getting ready for the Cricut Circle Crop but I can't wait to open it and play. Thanks Melissa for the happy mail.

PTI Blog Hop

Today is the PaperTreyInk blog hop and I actually completed the challenge this month and was able to participate. If you haven't noticed, I have been particpating in a lot of challenges this year, one of my resolutions that I've been able to keep at least for the first month of the new year! The challenge for this blog hop is to ink up a stamp set that you have never used or haven't used for a long time. This is pond life which I purchased the month it came out but this is the first time I have inked it up. My card is simple and stamped my turtle in pear parfait and old olive. I used my "go to" paper for all things ala nature, Greenhouse Gala. The base cardstock is kraft.

Don't forget I have blog candy here.

Thanks for looking!

Special Friend Blend

Today's card uses a tea set from Paper Trey Ink. I used retired SU paper along with the colors old olive and tangerine tango. I used scallop nestabilities along with this tea die from PTI to cut out my tea pot. I actually love coffee for everyday but there is something very restful and relaxing about a properly made cup of tea. My friends and sister and I love to go to afternoon tea at least once a year and have all the little sandwiches and treats and drink gobs of tea. A really fun way to spend the afternoon with girlfriends.

Friendship has perks

Last week's winner is Tini! Please email me with your address so that I can mail your prize to you. This week's prize is this very cool Love Bug stamp set. Leave a comment on this post and I will post a winner next Friday using random.org.

Today's card uses this fabulous Coffee stamp set from MFT. I used the same retired SU paper along wit hthe colors baroque burgundy and pink pirouette. I paperpieced the dress and used my copics to color in the rest of the image. I embellished with pink ribbon, scallop punch and some brads. I really like how this card came together, mostly because the colors are so bright and I think go well together. Hope you can have a quiet cup of coffee (or tea) today!

Berry Sweet 2

So here is my other strawberry card. This time using the strawberry from the Simply Charmed cartridge. This strawberry is more cutesy and happy but doesn't seem small compared to the other one? I also didn't cut a shadow for it but I am not sure that would make much difference. I used retired SU valentine's paper and cuttelbugged my main cardstock piece with swiss dots and used some gingham ribbon that I have loads of.

It's a simple card that I might pop into a blog candy win!

Puppy Love

Today's card is this cute card that I made for the My Pink Stamper challenge. I cut this dog from the Create a Critter cartridge at 3.5 in pink and in the Sending Love Speciality DP. The riding hood red cardstock was run through my cuttlebug with a Valentine's hearts Sizzix embossing folder. The ribbon is from my stash and the sentiment is from My Pink Stamper. The bottom edge of the dp was punched with the heart edge punch from SU. I think that it came out really cute, you can't see in this pic but his little ears are so sparkly from the DP.
I also have some fab blog candy here.
Thanks for looking.

Berry Sweet

As I have been experimenting with my Cricut, I have discovered that sometimes sizing can be wonky. I have a card later to share this week that uses a strawberry in similar sizing but it is a way different size. This strawberry is from the Hello Kitty Greetings cartridge. I used more retired SU Valentine's paper along with blushing pink cardstock which I cuttlebugged with swiss dots. It layered nicely and is cut at 3.75 and I cut a shadow for it. It just seems super huge to me. The sentiment is from either Hello Kitty or Simply Charmed. I can't remember a I used the same sentiment for both of my berry cards.

Just an aside, I just discovered that Lily knows who Hello Kitty is and loves her. Yay! I am still a lover of all things Hello Kitty so I was so excited that my little girl likes her too. We even had to get a Hello Kitty video. I thought how lame could this be? Very! But Tyler and Lily really like watching the HK videos so they must be geared for kids under 5!

Snow Much Fun

This week's cricut circle challenge was a sketch challenge. I also had to use buttons and stamping. Whenever I do one of these challenges I always try to make it relevant to my own pictures and scrapbooking needs. So I decided to use these fabulous pictures from our Big Bear trip last year. I used Basic Grey Dasher paper along with Bazill pink and blue cardstock and the white cardstock is from CTMH. I followed the sketch faithfully, I stamped snowflakes underneath the title block - both the title and the snow angel are from the Winter Frolic cartridge. I used my cuttlebug and sizzix snowflake die for the embossed pink cardstock parts. Let me know what you think!
On another note, poor Lily had a temp of 104 and I stayed home from work with her on Friday. Her fever finally broke Saturday morning but it was rough. Now she has horrible coughing and congestion, poor baby. Robert has come down with it, a fever and the chills. So far Tyler is his perky, energetic self and I feel like it wants to get me but I am fighting it! The part that really blows is that our weather is absolutely fantastic, warm and sunny and we are stuck inside with the cooties!

Make a Wish

Today's card uses this Make a Wish stamp set from MFT. I paperpieced the dress and background with retired SU dp. The colors used are baroque burgundy and so saffron. I colored in the cake with my copics.

How is your January going? We have been getting an incredible amount of rain here in So Cal so I've been spending a lot of time indoors and we've been trying to potty train Lily very seriously. I mean we've been sort of putting her on the potty very inconsistently but now we are in do or die mode so that's been consuming us. Yes, very exciting stuff here in the Vernon household.

I lucked out a couple of weeks ago and was able to scoop up some clearance 9.99 Cricut cartridges from Michaels. 8 to be exact! I am usually a day late and a dollar short whenever there is a great deal to be had so I am still giddy about this one. Hope your day is great!

I paperpieced Flopsey and the basket and colored in the flowers with copics. The second card uses Cosmo Cricket paperpad and this awesome grass die also from MFT. The rest of the images are colored in with copics!

Mahalo

Todays' card uses all Papertreyink products except for the crumb cake cardstock which is from SU. I used the Mahalo stamp set. AFter I cut out the poinsettia I just attched all of the pieces to my card. The hawaiian shores cardstock is so pretty and it really feels like Hawaii to me. Hope that you all doing well and staying well. We are well into flu season here in So Cal!

Warm Winter Wishes

Don't forget blog candy here!
Today's card is for my weekly cricut circle challenge. We had to use paint, snowflake and metal. I used a snowflake background paper and I cuttlebugged embossed snowflakes on my white base piece. The snowman is from the Winter Frolic cart. I cut him at 3.5 in white, baja breeze and espresso. I used shimmerz paints in silver bells to pain the embossed snowflakes and I also used it on my snowman. The sentiment is from The Cat's Pajamas stamps. I stamped it in chocolate ink and punched it out with my 1 3/8 punch and then used this WERMemory keepers metal frame to meet the metal requirement. I hope that you like it.

We never get snow where I live but it has been cold. I am surely ready for some bright colors here on the blog and I hope that you like red and pink because there is a lot of that coming. Happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Kayla

Happy Birthday to my maniacal niece Kayla who turns 2 today. We will be heading over to my sister's house for a light lunch and some cake to celebrate. This is the card that I made for her. She loves all things Disney especially Minnie Mouse so I thought that it would be fun to make a Minnie card using my Cricut Expression and Mickey and Friends cartridge. Minnie is cut at 3.5, I don't know that I would cut her much smaller because there are a couple of tiny pieces. Overall the piecing was not too bad. I used retired SU Valentine paper from last year, it's glittery and retired polka dot ribbon. The sentiment is from the Mickey Font and I welded the words together with my Gypsy.

Oh how I love the cuteness of the card. It will probably be wasted on a 2 year old but my sister will get a kick out of it!

Happy blog candy

Last week's winner is: Dorcas Dee Troche. Please send your information so that I can mail your prize to you. I had a student named Dorcas a couple of years ago. She went by Dory because she hated her name. The name Dorcas actually means Gazelle which I think is very elegant, but I don't think I quite convinced my student. So thanks Dee for reminding me of that lovely student. This week's prize is this fun stamp set. To win just leave a comment on this post and I will select a winner next Friday.

Aloha

Today's card uses almost all Paper Trey Ink. The stamp set is Aloha and the paper is from Beautiful Blooms and the colors are black and hawaiian shores. Once I stamped the main surfboard image, I colored in with copics. It's a simple card but it was fun playing with some new products.

It was also fun to use some spring like product versus all of the holiday product that everyone has been using!

The Matching Game

Hi everybody! I have one more Cricut project to share this week. Today's project was for challenge on the Cricut Circle blog. The challenge was to "scraplift" a project from the blog. I chose to scraplift the project in the picture below. Above you see the box that I used which is similiar to the project below. I used the Batman cart for the lettering cut at 1.25 and the dp is Cosmo Cricket - it's the snorkle/lil' man double deck. The paper around the edge is SU Greenhouse Gala. I did not decorate the front of my box as elaborately as I plan on giving the box and the little match cards to 2 1/2 year old Lily. Lily loves playing matching games and loves little cards. She puts all of her treasures, bits of ribbon, little cards and other small toys and random treasures in her little back pack and I didn't want things easily ripped off.

All of these other pics are the super cute little cards that I made. I used a combination of bazzil cardstock, SU cardstock, SU dp and Cosmo Cricket dp. The cards are made from Bazzil Cardstock on one side and Cosmo Cricket on the oher. I used my favorite Create a Critter cart and everything was cut to fit on these cards about 2.25-2.75 for each. The cards themselves were cut to fit the container. There are 2 each of 12 different images so my kids can play a very nice matching game. I have to watch out because Lily is VERY good at remembering where stuff is.

Thanks for looking.
